The Arctic Winds are five of Scotland’s top freelance wind players who share a passion for playing and performing music for wind quintet. They delight in playing the great twentieth wind quintets, as well as the virtuosic classical works from which the wind quintet tradition grew.

The players are prolific orchestral and chamber musicians, and are well established throughout Scotland as well as further afield; they play regularly with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

Biggar concertgoers will remember with pleasure the quintet when they joined with other Scottish wind players to form the Scottish Wind Ensemble in February, 2015, and presented a memorable performance of Mozart’s much loved Gran Partita for 13 winds!

“ an impressive foundation of disciplined ensemble work, consistent technical prowess, and versatile musicality....” Strathearn Herald

Subscription income from members is vital to the welfare of the Biggar Music Club, for without it, it would be difficult to make the necessary planning decisions and contract commitments for each season which usually have to be made a whole year in advance.

At present, the membership fee of £60 provides free entry to all the concerts for the whole season, a cost of £8.50 per concert. This is amazingly good value when compared to what you would have to pay to enjoy live performances by the same artists or ensembles in Edinburgh or Glasgow (or even London's Wigmore Hall) and without the cost and inconvenience of having to get there...
