Moishes Bagel

Greg Lawson, violin
Mario Caribe, double bass
Phil Alexander, piano
Guy Nicholson, percussion
Pete Garnett, accordion

For this concert, part of the Biggar Little Festival, this quintet of classically trained musicians presents a programme of jazz-inflected klezmer and Balkan folk music.

Moishe's Bagel performs thrillingly original cutting-edge klezmer and folk music from some of Scotland’s finest musicians. An intoxicating, life-affirming mix of Eastern European dance music, Middle Eastern rhythms and virtuoso performances. The band has regularly toured the UK, Ireland, and the Czech Republic, notching up sellout gigs at the Jazz Cafe, Sage Gateshead, St George's Bristol, Edinburgh Queens Hall and many more. They have recorded four award-winning CDs. In 2015, they were invited to compose and go on tour with an original score to the Soviet silent film classic Salt for Svanetia.

“exhilarating, full-flavoured stuff, often breath-takingly intricate but played with jubilation … the Bagel acquires the momentum of an express train”
The Herald

“this brilliantly accomplished and adventurous five-piece emphatically puts the “class” into “unclassifiable”.

Subscription income from members is vital to the future of Biggar Music, for without it, it would be difficult to make the necessary planning decisions and contract commitments for each season, which usually have to be made at least a year in advance.  We survived Covid times, so now we want to ensure a long-term future with the wide range of talent available in Scotland and beyond.
